FringeShip Shawl Workshop
Learn how to make the FringeShip shawl.
FringeShip is a self-fringing, garter stitch shawl in any size or gauge that you choose. It is also an excellent low stakes intro to steeking.
This shawl begins at the center of the top edge with two lines of increases expanding outward at 45 degree angles, forming a rectangle, plus a decorative column of slip stitches straight down the center. At roughly the halfway point, the two lines of increases will be swapped out for decreases, at the same time casting on a few extra stitches in both places to begin the fringe steeks. Once the knitting is complete, the two fringe steeks are cut up the middle, allowing the envelope shape to open up into a triangle. Then the loose steek stitches are unraveled to form the fringe and secured with overhand knots.
