In the shorter course, knitters will learn about and practice 4 classic pocket styles. In the longer version, knitters will also learn my vertical set-in pocket that is created with short rows and joined by working stitches together from several needles.

Pockets are such a delightful addition to a sweater! In this course you will learn how to add pockets to an existing design, whether it is a top-down or bottom-up pullover or cardigan. We will go through each style one at a time, outlining the set-up, how to work the piece, along with any required finishing. Instructions for horizontal, vertical, kangaroo pockets & patch pocket styles will be taught along with considerations including placement, size, dimensions & proportions to garment. Vertical set-in side opening pockets are included in the longer course.

Optional: Knitters may bring a pattern of their choice (from any designer) that they would like to add pockets: planning your pockets ahead of time gives you all the options! Materials Fee ($15) paid in cash directly to the instructor, Includes:

• Printed Course Workbook

• Digital delivery of all materials after class 

Students Must Bring

• Working Swatches & corresponding needles (instructions in homework)

• Scrap yarn in contrasting color, along with yarn attached to your swatches

• Basic calculator (or your smart phone)

• Pencil & scrap paper 

• Knitters tools: scissors, darning needle, measuring tape 

• An open mind about some easy math and a little bit of patience with yourself!

Homework 

Getting a few swatches ready ahead of time will maximize our class time in practicing the pockets themselves.  Instructions will be provided in the Course Prep handout for distribution.

We do require a 72-hour advance notice for cancellations to receive credit for another class.  No credit, partial or full, will be given for cancellations made less than 72 hours prior to the start of the event.  This class is for adults, no children under 13 please.
