Instructor: Melissa R.

Class Dates:
  • Sunday May 19, 10am-1pm
  • Sunday June 2, 10am-1pm
  • Sunday June 9, 10am-12pm

NOTE:  This class has homework before the first session.  To maximize the time spent on learning techniques, you will need to complete the first 14 Rows: cast on, ribbing and "handle" holes (created with yarn-overs) prior to class.

In the first session you will learn the entrelac method to create the starting triangles, and work the first full row of diamonds and learn how to made the I-cord handles; 3 hours

The second session we will meet off-site at a local laundromat to felt our bags.  We will discuss shaping and finishing so you can finish shaping your felted bag at home. To allow adequate knitting time, this session will be held 3 weeks after the first session; 3 hours

The third session we will learn how to measure for the lining and how to line the bag WITHOUT a sewing machine! Yes a bit of hand sewing is involved, but it's simple ; 2 hours

These are great project bags, wonderful gifts, and very cute purses!

Materials:

  • US10 or US 11 24" circular.  You can use a longer circular if you wish, it will just need to be more of a magic loop method.
  • US10 or US11  DPNs  or 40" US10 circular for magic loop as the bag decreases.
  • 1/2 yard  44" wide fabric - I used a novelty print quilting cotton.
All yarn must be NON-superwash, and at least 70% wool or it will not felt.  If you aren't sure about a yarn, please ask for help selecting the yarns.  Yardage needed:
  2 Colors 3 Colors 4 Colors
Main Color  300 yards 250 yards 200 yards
CC1 150 yards 100 yards 80 yards
CC2   100 yards 80 yards
CC3     80 yards

Sample is knit in 4 colors of Cascades 220, worsted weight 100% wool.

Skill Level: Intermediate.  You need to be able to cast-on and knit ribbing  (k1,p1).  The pattern calls for 2 colors for the ribbing, but could be done with one color or striped if the 2 color ribbing is not to your preference.

Please note this workshop is for adults only (ages 13 and up).

We do require a 72-hour advance notice for cancellations. No refunds, partial or full, will be given for cancellations made less than 72 hours prior to the start of the event.
